Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories – Stay (I Missed You)

The year was 1994. A simpler time; where wide-eyed optimism sprawled freely and the complicated mess of a world we live in today was but a distant glimpse on the horizon. Oh and sexy girls with glasses was becoming a thing, can’t forget that.

Before the look was chic, today’s throwback Lisa Loeb was rocking the style [mostly out of ocular necessity] with the release of her career launching single “Stay (I Missed You).” Credited alongside her band at the time Nine Stories, the group would rise to stardom thanks to the track’s agreeable pop-rock rhythms and folk-lite textures and the lucky happenstance of landing on a major motion picture soundtrack in Reality Bites. The cut would reach number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and go on to garner critical reception and awards left and right; not a bad way to make a debut.

Now, after more than twenty years, Loeb still loves performing her signature hit saying in a recent interview:

“You know, I am not tired of singing it. To me, ‘Stay’ reminds me of being an artist and a musician, just moving to New York City. I love that people are still so connected to it!”

Cheers to that. Reminisce with a spin below:
