Chris Styles ft. Adam E & SmCity – I Don’t Believe In Love

Living/blogging in Washington D.C., you’re exposed to an underrated abundance of quality music, across a wide swatch of genres and venues too. It’s a vibrant scene that doesn’t get the national attention like some other musical hotspots, but that’s slowly changing with the emergence of artists like Wale and with a groundswell of local support, most notably the upcoming #DMVRISING project from DJ/producer/personality Chris Styles. For those readers outside our little bubble here, the DMV acronym breaks down like so; D – D.C., M – Maryland, V – Virginia. A hometown boy through and through, Styles is the man for the job when it comes to curating the perfect blend of all the District’s music scene has to offer.

A handful of tracks have already made their way to the masses, but it’s the latest offering that’s piqued my interest. Featuring Digital High fave, the sublimely talented Adam E, and up-and-coming MC SmCity, “I Don’t Believe In Love” is a nu-R&B jam from producer DJ Nicar broaching a subject I’m sure we’re all familiar with, heartbreak. As he does on his latest solo piece “Burnt Out,” the lyrically gifted Adam delivers an honest and sincere vocal rendition that tugs at your empathetic sensibilities while SmCity comes correct with his own lovelorn flow giving the cut another emotional boost.
